Diagnostics & Sick Pet Care

When your dog or cat isn’t feeling well, you need a veterinary team you can trust. At Animal Hospital of South Bay, we understand that each pet’s illness, whether mild or severe, requires thorough investigation and personalized care. Our experienced veterinarians combine advanced diagnostic technology with compassionate, individualized treatment to help your pet feel better as quickly as possible.

State-of-the-Art Diagnostic Capabilities

We are equipped with an in-house lab and isolation unit as well as cutting-edge diagnostic technology to ensure that your pet’s health issues are identified quickly and accurately in a safe environment. From routine blood work to advanced imaging, we have the tools to get the answers you need.

  • Comprehensive physical examinations
  • Advanced laboratory testing
  • Digital radiography with rapid results
  • ECG and blood pressure monitoring
  • Ultrasonography and cardiac consultations with specialists

Radiology and Ultrasound

In addition to traditional diagnostic tests, we offer advanced radiology and ultrasound services to provide a deeper look into your pet’s health. These imaging techniques allow us to identify issues that may not be visible through physical exams or basic blood work.

  • Radiology (X-rays): Digital radiographs allow us to visualize your pet’s bones, joints, lungs, and abdominal organs, helping us identify fractures, infections, tumors, and other internal issues. Radiology is often recommended for pets with:
    • Bone fractures or joint issues
    • Respiratory distress or cough
    • Abdominal pain or bloating
    • Suspected heart or lung disease
  • Ultrasound: Using sound waves to create detailed images of your pet’s internal organs, ultrasound helps us diagnose conditions that affect soft tissues, such as the liver, kidneys, heart, and gastrointestinal tract. We may recommend ultrasound for pets with:
    • Unexplained weight loss or vomiting
    • Abdominal masses or organ abnormalities
    • Heart disease or irregular heart rhythms
    • Pregnancy or reproductive health concerns

Expert Consultations and Specialized Care

In addition to our in-house diagnostic capabilities, we work closely with specialists to provide your pet with the best possible care:

  • Dr. Ann Reed, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiologists, provides expert ultrasonography.
  • Dr. T.J. Morrison, Diplomate of the American College of Internal Medicine-Cardiology, offers specialized cardiac consultations when necessary.

Personalized Treatment Plans

We recognize that every pet is unique, which is why we develop individualized treatment plans tailored to your pet’s specific needs. Our approach takes into account:

  • Your pet’s medical history and current condition
  • Age and lifestyle factors
  • Your family’s schedule and capabilities
